We got ourselves set in a place for the 3 nights we would be in Port D and arranged an improvised dinner that could be could solely using a microwave.... mmmmmmm

Over the next couple of days we drove up and around the Daintree -  to mosman gorge, for a walk around rainforest and a swim in the river - a great way to cool down from the humidity! And to Cape Tribulation - where the rainforest meets the sea... It is a stunning drive up the coast with some breathtaking view points along the way! (Nerd fact: It is the only place in the world where two UNESCO heritage sites meet)
That evening we were in for our first Aussie BBQ!! A friend of Ds brother had recently moved to Port D and invited us over with some other new people he knew from the area. A great night of snags and beer! (Although kangaroo sausages I purchased were not that well received)

Our last day in Port Douglas was the pinnacle - a (rather expensive) trip out to the Great BArrier Reef for snorkelling and diving!
It was an amazing experience, with a massive array of coral and fish - the highlight of the day was probably sight two. After catching a glimpse of a shark swimming by in 1 I thought this would be as close as I got - until I jumped in the water at the second sight, only to look down before descending to see 3 large white-tips circling the boat! Descending down past them was eerie to say the least! But once you are down at their level and can see them, it is strangely better... Deirdre's snorkelling group was being led by a marine biologist would proved that something we had been  told was not a myth... on being thrown  a plastic bottle he began to crunch the bottle underwater - which very quickly attracted sharks and seemingly every big fish to the area! Good times! If it wasnt for 'bottling it' on the trapeze in Koh Tao it may never have happened!
As one adventure ends, another was beginning - we were straight back to Port D and into the car to begin the journey top Sydney!
