After another grueling 13hrs arse clenching drive we arrived in Jogja to spend a few days visiting Buddhist / Hindu Temples. After sucessfully over throwing the Russians the rest of the bus gathered at what was to become our 'local''for the next few days - The Bintang Cafe. Here we met the ever cheerful Agus and his sidekick Luppa the Jogja's best tourist information and our new friends.

The following day Agus pimped out his friend Andre to be our driver and show our new gang - Debbie, Ronja, Hans and ourselves, the ancient Buddhist monuments of Borobudur. A very interesting day, with our guide Eddy taking us from the earthly level of Karma, all the way to Nirvana... ( Which only seemed to be filled with scores of school children chanting ' lady can i have your picture pleeaaassee lady.....)

We also had a trip to see the results from the latest lava flow from angry mt Merapi, but unfortunately torrential rain and heavy clouds put pay to that - back to the bintang then for a night of live music - blues fronted by an Indonesian looking jimi Hendrix - or was it the other way round..

The next day we headed off to see the Hindu 'Prambanan', another great wonder of the world, and the ballet telling the story of Ramayana - if not without its own drama when our driver failed to pick us up to take us to the ballet. Deirdre was the star pupil of the day, with our guide giving her the title 'D the spirtual' for her insightful replies on the subject of infinity and providing answers to his age-old rhetorical questions.

It was sad to leave, as we had met some lovely people in Jogja...
