Our Cruise takes us to Melk and then to Durnstein. 13-07-11
We awoke this morning in Melk and after breakfast were taken in busses to the magnificent Benedictine Abbey which is situated above the town and is one of Europe's largest Monasteries.
We were given a guided tour of this beautiful place and then slowly returned to our boat. The pictures will tell the story. No end of money is invested in these monasteries and the upkeep must be horrific. I guess they need all the tourists visits to pay for the maintenance.
The countryside was again beautiful as we cruised on to Durstein. Durstein is situated in the heart of the Wachau wine region. Above the town are the ruins of the castle where Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned. Ray & I did not partake of the afternoon excursion as both of us were feeling exhausted with our Bronchitis.
A nice afternoon sleep was enjoyed by us both!!!!
