Day 3 of Segment 3
It was another very hot humid day at approximately 48C. The only thing you have energy for is to sit at the pool and keep cool. There are a lot of activities going on in air conditioned areas, but this weather is just too good to pass up.
Thanks again for all the emails keeping me posted about home and away! Of course there is always good news and also some not so good news. My thoughts are definitely with our dear work family member today ES. We will all definitely miss him. Also thanks to the friends we met on the last five trips for keeping in contact on this trip as well. Danuta and Caz it was good to hear the rest of your trip was marvelous! Yes Barbara and Bill we will be coming to South Africa soon. Paul and Sue your trip sounds absolutely fantastic and once in a lifetime dream! It's amazing over 1,000 hits so far.
The media reported a cargo ship being hijacked approximately 100 km from our location. It was rumoured that NATO did an air strike and, blew up a significant number of the pirates boats. We’re not sure if this was retaliation for the hijacking but, apparently they took out significant number of speed boats. We talked to the mercenaries that were hired to protect our ship and they said it was common to have ships hijacked and they had been involved in a few hijacking themselves while protecting ships. $11,000,000.00 dollars ransom paid to the Somali pirates for a hijacked ship appears to be a very good incentive to hijack more ships.
