A pleasant enough place with a good selection of restaurants and bars (if you like decent beer, get on the Speights!). As with most towns in NZ, the place is simply to new to have that many tourist attractions. The tram tour is quite good, but there isn't anything that really springs to mind as 'absolutely must-see' attractions in town itself. The Banks Penninsular is spectacular, with views over the two ancient volcano craters (now filled in by the sea).
