Milan reminded me somewhat of London, in the way modern offices sat cheek-by-jowl to historic sights couple with suited office workers, and even a glass-roofed, cobbled area akin to Leadenhall Market.
We were glad that we actually stayed in Bergamo, as though Milan was pleasant enough, with good sights to see, from our very limited sightseeing, it wasn't really a place to enjoy just being there. Sights we managed to see included:
The DuomoThe constrruction of the marvellous, marble-fronted cathedral spanned five centuries (starting 1386). It is both beautiful in the detail of carved marble and inspiring in its size and architecture, constructed of seemingly infinite 135 spires.
A visit to the roof is an absolute must (accessible by lift or stairs), not just for the views over Milan, but the perspective of repeated spires and arches.
