we left koh lanta really early. They came to pick us up at 7:20 in the morning. So we woke up ten minutes before. A van pulled over and asked us if we were going to phi phi, to which i answered no and told him that we were going to phuket. The most touristic island in the whole of thailand. Sweeden has got charter flights directly there, yeap, like two weeks packages and so on. Sweedish are taking over the island, well both koh lanta and phuket.

It was the only place where we could meet our friend Ipanema, and her boyfriend, Aaron, a New Zealander. they were in New Zealand when we decided to meet somewhere where we would go in our trip, and also that they could get just after christmas day. So it was phuket, and they almost did not get anything. So were going to meet at pineapple appartments. So chiel and me arrived to the pier at about 11, after changing ferries in the middle of the sea.

We asked steve, the appartment's manager to give us and indication of how much would it cost to go from the pier to karon beach, and he said that i would be about 400 thb, which sounded outrageous. We thought he mystiped and meant 40thb instead. So when we arrived to the pier, and also in the boat sellers were trying to sell us tickets for many different prices, from 200 to 500 thb. So we decided to walk with our backpages, and daily bags, and also a medium size shopping bag, full of tea - that we have been collected through out some of the cities we have been to - and chiel's winter clothes.

We starting walking in the sun and when we arrive to the bus station in phuket town, we had walked about 4km. I was tired but we managed to have a look at the town, and asked people where was the bus station and so on. So we took the local bus and did not know where in Karon beach we had to get off. In the bus there was this weird speaking and lookng finish guy, who started talking to us and then he got off in a strange place.

We got to the karon town and Chiel's jaw dropped to the floor, we are in the Benidorm of Thailand, and it is full of Swedish people, English, but not Spanish and Dutch that we know of, Scandinavian bars, western restaurants, and lots of Sundecks by the beach. There isn't any place to put your towel!!!!!!!

We found Steve and checked in our appartment. It feels nice to have a place with a living area our own big telly, dvd, but big dissapointment for Chiel the kitchen is not properly equipped and it only has one burner. He wanted to cook so much. We fresh up and go to the market to do our house shopping, prawns, weird fruit and vegetables, they also sell crickets at the market. We walked all the way there, not so far, but uphill. We come back home, but first we stop at the seven eleven to buy enough beer and drinks for tonight, when we see our friends.

Chiel wanted to sleep but i really wanted to go for a quick swim, so he came with me and then we walked a bit around town, and got to the flat and we did not leave any more that day. Ipanema and Aaron arrived at about 10 at night and we were talking for quite a long time...it feels really good to have them around and the prospect of seeing each other again in Bangkok when my father is there. He really wants to see Paquita, that is Ipanema's name for my family. Also her real name is not Ipanema but Aparna.

Following day was the 31st, we did not do much but hang around, having breakfast, and watching telly, and catching up with all the news. Then we went for a swim and it was about time to get ready and buy more drinks for tonight. I already had my grapes, so I was sorted.

We went to buy more drinks, to call our relatives, and food as we were not planning to leave the house on the 1st, due to obvious hangover reasons. Or so everybody thought.
So at about nine we went to have our last dinner of the year, and walked around for a bit, and were quite put off by all the bars with happy girls, lady boys, fat old men, and well all the environment that we wanted really badly to avoid. So we came back to our little courtyard and had dinner in a really pleasant restaurant. Thai food, it was to say good bye to the year. I forgot we bought quite a few of fire works, and before dinner and after dinner we were throwing them to the street from our balcony. People were just going mad with their fireworks and crackers.

The night was presenting itself really relaxed, fun and I was already falling sleep. How bad!!!! But i said to myself that I had to wake up and have fun.

We came back home at about ten and drank a few drinks, throw more fire crackers, and just warm up for the night ahead. We heard lots of instruments from a bar next door. And Aaron told us that they were doing open jam session. So since he is a drummer we decided to go there and start our night. He played the drums along with other spontenaous players, and the bar had a good atmosphere. It was pleasant, the bar staff were bob marley thai replicas. After a while Thai Zeppelin took charge and he started to play heave metal (like Jimmy Hendrix) on his V shaped electric guitar. it was really fabulous. During all this time people were throwing fire works, were walking around with happy faces on, everybody was just really expectant to the grapes time. For people who are not very familiar with Spanish new year's behaviour, we eat twelve grapes with the first twelve bell clock's of the year.

We all the came outside the bar at 12 and it was a really unique moment, as there were lost of firework s, people were static, and thai Zeppelin kept on playing. REally big hurra for him!!!!

A little child was throwing firecrackers to people's feet when they weren't looking. Really funny really. Anyway as the night went on we stayed at the same bar and I fall sleep. The night was lots of fun. Since i went to bed early i really can't tell you much more, but apparently the rest passed out on the couch.
Following day we did not do much but talked, and i went to the internet, and got some really nice take away food for the restaurant next door.

I went to bed really early again, i can't seem to keep awake past midnight. So i got up really early this morning and went to phuket town, quite far by the way in the highway to buy our tickets to go to bkk. I lost my way and someone drove in front of me to show me the way, people are really nice around here.

We will se what we do today.

Today the first of january we did not do much, in fact i think that nothing at all. I woke up early but did not do anything, but hang around and wait for the rest to show any signs of living. The day went by without any major events and for dinner I went downstairs to get take away food. Just like any normal start of the year.

Following day everybody was still sleeping but I woke up and went to rent a motor bike and drove all the way to phuket town to get our bus tickets to get to bangkok to pick up my dad on the 6th of january. The way there took about 45 minutes and there was lots of traffick already, but people here drive better than in India, so even though you drive on the left it feels safer to drive here.

On my way back home I decided to buy an internet card from the hotels next door, which can be used in Ipanema's laptop. When I got home everybody was still sleeping!!!!! Never mind I decided to wake them up already. chiel woke up and Ipanema and Aaron decided to join too. We rented another bike and decided around to explore the island a little bit. WE drove in the opposite direction first towards Patong beach and then to Surin Beach. This place is really touristic. But is still really beautiful, the beach shore is full of sundecks but it is really ok, when you are surrounding with friends.

We stayed the afternoon by a little bay and Chiel wasn't feeling too well. But we came back to the house and had a few beers and relaxed and went down to have dinner to a local place, which turned out to be really good. Anyway Chiel wasn't feeling too well, again some problems with his belly. I don't know what is going on, maybe he ate something wrong, or he got a stomach virus or something similar.

Following morning I got up earlier and went to buy a internet card to sort out the hotels for my father and his mate. Also is easier for me to get things done so then I only have to worry about where are we going to eat or visit. So I did that but i got locked out once inside the building and then another one outside. It was quite funny for the people having breakfast and quite crap for me. But never mind. I spent quite a while on the computer, and got things sort it. We also went to play miningolf, at the dinsaour park, it was cool. I had never played before but it is sort of relaxing, but also difficult.

that day and the day after we did not do much more since Chiel was not feeling too well and we just wanted to enjoy each other's company, just hang out with Ipanema and Aaron. chiel is lucky cause Ipanema has a laptop with a computer game he loves, so he can play non stop. I woke at 4 in the morning and he was still at it.

We had some food we bought at the market and we had some thai curry and other stuff, that chiel and IPanema cooked. Really delicious.
Ipanema and me decided to go for the last phuket swim at about sunset time and talk a bit more, about anything really. Once in the water we were bitten by microscopy jelly fishes!!!!!! So annoying that we had to get out of the sea.

Following day chiel and me were leaving at about 6 in the morning to get our bus to bangkok. We had to be at the station really early, at 6.30 as our bus was leaving at 7. chiel realised in the taxi, aleady on our way to the station that he forgot his monely belt with the passport inside. So we came back and gave Ipanema and Aaron quite a shock when chiel was banging on the door at that time of the morning.

With the passport and breakfast in the belly we took our bus to bangkok.
