On the way to Iceland we watched the Sigur Ros video where after a world tour they went home to do some free concerts all around Iceland, you had pay for food and drink which made me want to weep. The band made me think of viking pixies dealing with secret nature problems and the weight of the world that i couldn't possibly understand. I love anything to do with hot pools, and was really excited about going to stay at the clinic - a fancy spa at the blue lagoon.
Blue Lagoon was gorgeous. Freezing cold and isolated, like we were in Mordor. Iceland is definately on my must return list, it really is a magical looking place, i think a hire car, tent and 3 weeks of trekking would be the way to do it.
However, we only had 24 hours and just did the Lagoon, staying in the stunning Clinic hotel. Andy had the very smart idea to bring Tescos sandwiches and salads for our time there so we saved about a million dollars not having to eat at the pricy restaraunt...I thought Iceland's economy was fucked and everthing would be dirt cheap...not so.
The whole time we just swam in the lagoon with smelly mud face masks on. Was bliss and a decadent way to start our budget backpacing trip.
