Trina and I slept in this morning before eating yet another leftover buffet and egg breakfast. Checking out, we drove to the Sultan Qaboos Mosque. Having to cover up with long ankle length skirt, long sleeve shirt and a veil covering our hair we entered this grand mosque. It was amazing.
Huge arch ways, marble and mosaic tiles, with basins to wash the faithful's feet before pray were only a few of the beautiful decorations of this mosque. We entered the pray hall which is covered in the world's largest carpet. Looking up the dome and the massive chandelier dominate the hall and the Quran and other books line the walls in little alcoves. This was truly a beautiful place to come to pray and an honour to visit being non-muslim.
On our way to our last destination in Muscat, driving along we saw many police and military cars, policeman down in water ways searching and military trucks with guns pointed towards road blocks. Not sure what was going on, but something major was happening. We stopped off at the Muscat City Centre for lunch and a spot of shopping before returning the car to the airport and flying back to Dubai.
Muscat is a wonderful place, with a rich history, a culture that is being maintained, the locals are very friendly and Muscat is slowly developing a tourist industry, yet not taking it over the top like Dubai. It is a firm favourite.
