Yet another day of adventure sport. We caught the bus back to the Zambian side and kitted up and hiked down to the edge of the Zambezi. After a brief safety talk, we jumped in our rafts. We all made sure that we bought at nyummy nyummy, which is the Zambezi Rivergod. It is a necklace that all rafters should wear while on the water. Nikki, Rachel, Anna, Jez, Al and I are in one boat with some others along with our instructor, Kulu, with the biggest lips I have ever seen! We are setting out to do 23 rapids. We set off and the first few were fun, then I got sucked out and tossed around. I kept getting dragged under and I swallowed half the zambezi, eventually I popped back up and they dragged me into the raft. trying to gasp for air I then threw up half the Zambezi! I was a little rattled after that. Commercial Suicide, was the only unrunable rapid. it was a grade 6. Everyone had to get out and walk their rafts to the end of it. Seeing that our raft was the heaviest with the back board and first aid kit, they sent ours down the rapid, which showed us exactly what would happen if we went down it. One of the kayakers, who is highly experienced went down it too! Crazy. We drifted down a quiet stretch while we ate lunch and then mucked about splashing around. Nikki and I jumped Kulu and we all went overboard. Kulu freaked out and dragged us back in. He told us we were crazy, seeing that the water in this part is full of crocs. When we got in the raft there was a croc waiting for us on a rock only 3 metres away! that got the heart pumping.

By the end of the day, I was bruised, sore and had the biggest smile on my face. It was awesome. Some of the rapids we did were The Boiling Point (no 1),
The Devil's Toilet Bowl (6),Commercial Suicide (9), The gnashing jaws (10), The washing machine (15) and Oblivian (18). To get out of the gorge we had to walk straight up the cliff face. A steep ladder/stair set up which was crazy. I tripped on the last step and Nikki greeted me with a cold beer and a block of ice! She is such a good friend.
