Closed Campsite
(34 terrible miles)
Yesterday there was a growing headwind that slowed us down a bit, today it was too much. 20 to 30 mph winds blowing us straight back if we were lucky- gusts if wind would blow in from the side and you had to fight to stay out of the car paths. It reached its worst as we attempted to cross a bridge and were unable to ride. It took one foot on the ground and on hand on the railing to get across. Truly insane. It really started to add some stress after a while and after 4pm and 34 miles of fighting it we jumped on a bus and rode the last 30 miles to Split. Both Split and the town we stopped in earlier that day (Sibinik) were super cool. White stone buildings with entire mazes of passageways called roads, but only walkable. Absolutely beautiful. In Split we jumped on a ferry to the island of Hvar to make some more ground and avoid traffic on route towards Dubrovnik. Once on the island (we arrived at 11pm ) we were excited to see ample signs pointing us to a neaby campground. We arrived to find it had closed down. Lots of things are broken down or abandoned here. We camped anyway.
