(60 miles)
After going to a few more museums in Utrecht with Roger and Caroly, we said goodbye and began the larger portion of our bike trip. Today it took us a while to get ourselves oriented and leave Utrecht but once we found the right direction it was smooth-sailing. The Holland bike paths are very clearly and thoroughly marked. You can essentially follow these paths from town to town anywhere in the country and it is totally flat in Holland. We left Utrecht at 3 pm and found ourselves searching for a campsite between 10 and 12 midnight. We really wanted to make it a solid distance in an attempt to arrive in St.Quentin by Sunday.

We never did find any sort of campground so we put our tent in a ditch and had great success at having no one tell us to leave! The Netherlands is supposedly the most densely populated country in the world. You really can't get away from people. I think we just got lucky that it was their national holiday: The entire country was out partying and the patrols had other things to do.
