We docked in the port of Sant Antoni (one of the two major cities on the island) at 7:00 am, as the sun was rising. This meant that there was absolutely nothing open and you could see no one on the streets except youths who had still been partying from last night.
The funniest thing I saw was a guy passed out on a stack of about 15 beach chairs! So, I decided to walk around and explore the city.
At about 9:00 am, after I had had some breakfast, I went to a nearby car rental place. I chose a nice moped (small motorcycle) to use throughout my 2-day stay on the island. I had never driven one but as soon as the guy taught me how to drive it, it took me about 2 minutes to get the hang of it.
I was so excited when I got on my moped that I immediately headed for the city of Ibiza, which was one the other side of the island.
The drive was only about 15 minutes. Along the way I saw ads everywhere about DJ Tiesto spinning at Privilege on Mondays and Armin van Buuren spinning at Amnesia on Tuesdays.
This meant that I immediately knew where I was going my 2 nights on Ibiza. Furthermore, I got a lot of good feedback on those 2 clubs, supposedly Ibiza's best.
As I arrived at Ibiza, I started looking for a place to stay!
Initially, I checked out a hotel that Ramzy (Za7lewy) had recommended (Hotel Maritimo) but as it turns out, it was for groups of 3 or more because the price was a little costy. Luckily, there was a hostel right in front of that hotel called Hostal Bimbi and they had single rooms that were only 20 euros/ night!
I put my backpack in the room and headed downstairs to start my tour of the island.
The first place I went to was called "Bora Bora" which was recommended by the locals because it was a bar/restaurant on the beach and after 5:00 pm would start playing some dance music. It was still about 1:00 pm at the time so there wasn’t anything crazy going on over there. The first thing that catches one’s eye upon entering Ibiza’s beach is the quantity of topless women! EVERYONE was topless! Hehe I had never been to such a beach but it didn’t take me long to get used to! :P
After I got bored of the beach, I decided to ride my moped all around the island, along the coast. During this time, I saw some of the best scenery I had ever laid eyes on.
There were so many empty beaches and hidden treasures that I would not have found had I not gotten myself lost!
The weather was sunny and the ride was just so amazing. I stopped at a bunch of different locations to take some photos and get a little wet while I was at it.
As the sun was setting (at around 10:00 pm :P) I finally decided to head home and get some rest before a long night.
I woke up at around midnight, got dressed and was at Bora Bora around 1:00 am. Here, there were shuttles taking everyone from the beach to Privilege! This club had the punch line: “Biggest Night Club in the World.” I was soon to find out that it was indeed the biggest club because its capacity was at 12,000 people! I met a few New Zealanders (Jodi and Laura) who I tagged along with throughout the night. I also met quite a few British people (at least 12). The first one I met was a tall and built dude by the name of “Ben”. I took this opportunity to give him the nickname “Big Ben” (like the clock hehe).
As we got in, Tiesto had already started spinning and was giving the people one hell of a performance. There was something that resembled a waterfall in the middle of the club and this was used along with the smoke machines to allow the club to do 3-D light shows, something I had never seen!
Tiesto played a lot of new songs that I had never heard before but also played some very familiar tracks that he had remixed. These include: “The Killers – Mr. Brightside” , “Red Hot Chili Peppers – Other Side” , “Coldplay – The Scientist” and “The Tetris Theme”.
The place was packed and we didn’t leave until about 6:30 am!
