We arrived in Phoenix after a smooth flight. First impression, it was HOT. Rob said that was perfect weather but my skin told me otherwise. We met up with Alex in the airport. Only missing member of the group was Swamy. He decided to fly into Las Vegas instead. Sure he said it was because he got a great deal on airfare. Secretly, I suspect it was the call of the slot machines. Rental Car Tip #1: Check under the car! Twenty minutes after we picked up our rental van, we noticed a strange noise whenever our van hit a bump. Upon careful inspection, we found that a bracket holding the gas tank was loose. Not an encouraging sight. Good thing that we were able to get a new van without much trouble. The new van had automatic doors!!! On our way to Grand Canyon, we stopped by the local REI store. It was like setting kids free in a toy store. After spending 3 hours in traffic, we arrived in Flagstaff. After getting some M&Ms in WalMart, we were led astray by a mysterious force. We couldn't find the highway we were on! It was after 9pm when we finally arrive in Grand Canyon. Tent, sleeping bag, and a good night of sleep (except for Rob because he had to blow his nose into a dirty sock).
