Show trip route
We left around 9:00 Sunday morning and made it in just over 2 hours. After I got checked in, Amy ran, and Gar and I rested, we set out to to see the Promenade area in Venice. The promenade is a shopping area that is closed off to traffic and you can only go to on foot. Once we got something to eat, John, Yoko and I ended up walking to the Santa Monica Pier. It has changed a bit since the last time I was here but it was just as cool to see. Then it was time for Amy and Gar to work and rehearse which meant it was time for me to rest and relax. I didn't know it at the time but Sunday involves lots of drums on Venice Beach. I think it's called Drum Circle Sunday. Apparently, I was pretty tired because it didn't bother me a bit.
That night we headed to their gig at the Supper Club. It was a cool place to see it too. I met many of Amy's friends who were very nice and very cool. And they couldn't say enough about Amy. They told me how wonderful, talented and fearless she was. I was like, um yeah I know. Just kidding, I said thanks. It was a very good show. All that was missing were the costumes....Is Gar reading this...my sunshiney little friend.
Seriously though, poor Gar. You see, Gar is a light sleeper and when we got back to Amy's place there was a loud Halloween party going on ON TOP of one of the buildings next door. It actually looked very cool because they were playing scary movies off the building next to them. Rather than complain, he just said "Let's crash it". So we did. Up the stairs, through the apartment, through a 3 foot by 3 foot hole in the wall, up some more stairs and on to the roof. My first thought was, I'd like to see dad here. I think he would have jumped. It got pretty wild. When everyone started dancing in the middle of the roof, you could actually feel it flexing. I heard the next day that it went pretty strong until at least 3:30.
I thought we would be leaving Monday morning so I brought the clothes I wore with some interchangable parts. I found out on this trip though that Amy is a fellow Heroes fan so we were going to stay until Heroes was over at 10:00. I could last another day in the same clothes as long as no one else minded. They didn't tell me anyway. Amy had to work until 3:00 and Gar was going to get some stuff done so Gar was going to drop me off at the movies. First we went to camera obscura which I'd never heard of before. It's hard to explain but there is a camera type thing on top of the building that displays live pictures on to a big disc in the middle of the room. It almost appears 3D. You could focus it by moving the disc. It was cool to see. From there Gar dropped me off at the theatre to see Darjeeling which was very good. I'd go in to a synopsis but this is getting long as it is.
Amy came from work and picked me up at the theatre. We stopped at her apartment, then headed down the Pacific Coast Highway to El Matador beach. Excellant beach. Full of caves and caverns. We stayed for the sunset and headed back to Venice. Apparently, Gar was having car trouble so we stopped to give him a jump. Then we went to eat dinner, stop for ice cream and watch Heroes. Once it was over, Amy gave us a ride to Gar's car which we jumped again. We tried to make it but it just wouldn't go so we stayed another night. I spent the night at Amy's and saw what Amy calls "McGarver" in action. Using a vacuum and tape he filled the air mattress in no time. I offered my gum and matches but he didn't need them.
It turns out that it was just the battery terminal so it was a quick and easy fix....for Gar. Once the car was fixed we loaded up, dropped off Amy's keys, delivered some speakers and we were on our way back to the desert.
So tomorrow we'll be back to work. Now we'll start working on the common wall so keep checking the blog.
