Today we went to an amazing building called 'The Oriental Pearl'. It's purpose is simply to beautify the city, although the is somewhat of a museum at the bottom. To get there we took the Metro train, which is always packed but runs alot more efficiently than Connex did. The train also travels much faster. The Oriental Pearl cost about $18 to go to the 2nd 'Pearl' and it offered fantastic views of the city. Just 1 floor below that was a skydeck, where you where basically standing on glass and could see the hundred of metres of drop below you. It's quite a scary experience even though lovic would tell you that its just as safe as standing anywhere else on the tower. The museum at the bottom was more of a large exhibit and actually turned out to be rather interesting. All the streets where like a minuture voyage back in time as Shanghai started changing into the place it is now.
Afterwards we walked to the Bund which as a beautiful place overlooking the river. Unfortunately all these views are impossible given the construction work happening now. So instead we walked around Nanjing Rd and look in some shops and had dinner.
The city of Shanghai has prooved to be hectic and crazy, especially given the upcoming World Expo. There is still plenty of poor people scattered around the rich areas and things like the World Expo say alot about where the country's priorities lie.
The last few days I will be back in Hangzhou.
