I've arrived in Sin City!

I took a flight from Austin at 9.05am and arrived at 9.50am and then waited at the airport for 2 hours for Dad and Maurice to arrive. While I was waiting I sat next to three members of the air force that were waiting to pick up officers from the airport and transport them to the several  air force bases here in the desert. Dad and Maurice arrived on time, Dad looked pretty good considering the long flight and Maurice was white as a ghost, but otherwise was fine. We took a shuttle bus to the rental car building, spent ages there getting ever piece of identification from Dad and Maurice and finally got into our new red car.

Driving into Vegas along the strip is some sight to see. Even in pictures it can’t quite do it justice. There are so many places to look, so many places to take photos, you could spend weeks here and not capture half of it. Maurice took a while to get a hang of the right side of the road business and Dad treated him like Rheydn when she is driving. We almost didn’t make it out of the Rental place with Maurice almost driving back onto the spikes.

We are staying at the Bellagio, which is a nice hotel, but in comparison to the ones I’ve stayed at in the South, it doesn’t offer nearly as many free amenities or space in the room and is almost 4 times the price. Ever thing seems to have a price on it here. It is ridiculous. There is no free wifi in the room as you can imagine, so that is going to be a bit of a problem for me writing my blogs. I have submitted this blog by going to the Apple Store which has free wifi, although it will be a hassle to go there every day.

After settling into the Bellagio we went for a walk around, had lunch at the Cheesecake factory and saw the inside and outside of the Bellagio Casino and adjacent Caesar’s Palace. They are pretty similar inside, but differ greatly on the outside. We spent heaps of time as I said in the Apple Store as well as considerable time in the Callaway Golf Store, where Dad and Maurice had a try of some clubs. I was happy to just follow them around for a change, as I have pretty much only done my thing the past few weeks. After walking around, we came back to the hotel and decided to go for a swim, only to be told that the pool closed in 15 minutes (8pm). They must really think that the pool is too distracting to people and that they don’t gamble because of it. So we swam for 15 minutes, came back upstairs, fiddled around a bit and then headed to Fremont Street, the old side of town.

Fremont Street is older, dodgier, but still has a nice retro quality to it. It was nearly impossible to find parking, but we managed to find a spot behind a man standing in the boot of his car.  We looked around a bit, got photos of us standing behind 1 million dollars and ate at the Casino Café. The Casino Cafes food was horrible. I had a beef sandwich that was in a gravy soup, absolutely disgusting. From the sounds of Dad and Maurice’s food, it wasn’t much better. After that horrendous dinner, we saw the light show on Fremont Street which was entertaining, albeit too short. It was a montage of Queen, playing favourites such as 'We are the Champions’ and ‘We Will Rock You’. After this, the tiredness was really taking its toll on Dad and Maurice, so we headed back for the hotel.

They both seemed to fall asleep really quickly and had set their alarms early as they were both going to a Medical Conference (Pre-TAM), whilst a looked around the next day. However they both snored loudly; Dad being the louder and more consistent one in the snoring department. So given my lack of sleep last night, I’ve decided that I am moving to the South Point Hotel and Casino so I can get proper sleep and also be at the same location as TAM. I will go to the Apple Store upload this blog and the many, many pictures and then hopefully book my stay at South Point. After that I will explore the other casinos and meet Dad and Maurice at about 5pm.

Tomorrow is the start of ‘The Amazing Meeting (TAM)’. I am really excited and with a good nights sleep will enjoy it much much more.
