Where I stayed
Arrived this afternoon in boiling hot Austin. Currently its 39 degrees, very hard to go outside for any long periods. When I arrived at the hotel I discovered that I only had a $100 note and of course the taxi driver claimed he had no change. Similarly the hotel only had a $20 note in the cash register. Has the economy hit Austin so badly that no-one has any money? Of all people it was the bell boy who came up with the goods, giving me change in almost only $1 bills, so now I had about 50 of them. This hotel is normally quite expensive but I got a good deal and a night free so it has brought it down to my normal hotel budget scheme.
After putting all my things down in my room, I wandered off about 200m to the Tourist Information Center, which is suprisingly difficult to walk when it is 39 degrees. Austin appears to be a well structured city, unlike Houston and is known for music scene. It is also the state capital, so I plan on seeing those tomorrow. I am now just weighing up whether 1km is walking distance in this heat, it would be silly to take a taxi wouldn't it?
Austin is on the outskirts of Hill Country where all the ranches are, I wanted to visit one of the old towns, like something out of an old Western movie but it seems as though there arn't any tours and buses there are very inconvenient. I did however, see a bit of them on the bus ride here.
