Yesterday I made a stop in Mississippi for the night in the state capitol, Jackson. There isn't really much to do there and so I spent the time relaxing around the hotel. It was boiling outside so it was impossible to go anywhere even if there were things to do and places to see.

Today I woke up and left to New Orleans via the Amtrak train again. Once again, this is very comfortable transit. There is plenty of legroom (double that of a plane) and I got two seats to myself. The 4 hour train ride turned for beaming 38 degrees celcius and sunny to 29 degrees, pouring rain and thunderstorms. You can definitely tell that a place like New Orleans would be devastated by a hurricane as there is water all around it. Getting a taxi was difficult as visibilty was poor given the rate of rainfall. I managed to find one without going out into the rain and the guy basically drove into the front door of the hotel for me. The room here is smaller than other motels but is still nice and cozy. After waiting for the rain to stop briefly I headed off to a manager-suggested restaurant. The hotel is actually in perfect position, close and convenient to the action of the French quarter, but far enough away to avoid the noise. I ordered a specialty soup which you can see here which was a mixture of rice and chicken and different unique french spices. It was a little spicy, but very tasty. My main course was beef and this was one of the most spiciest things I've ever eaten. I can't even describe it to you. It was actually quite tasty, but I was coughing and crying and I guess it was the level in which Rhedyn would start throwing an 'Arab Shook'. Luckily Cokes all over America are bottomless, because I must have had about 4 tonight.

After eating I returned to my hotel as I plan on getting an early start tomorrow and go for the French Quarter Walking Tour early in the morning to set me up for the rest of the day. Early thoughts of New Orleans is that it is definitely a cool place to be. Very trendy and lots and lots of tourists walking around.
