The Mogollon Rim

I finally figured out where the Rim Information Center is located.  It was only a couple of miles from where I'm camped.  I found it...it's closed still.  I crossed the highway and traveled a ways up Forest Road 300 and finally got to a few overviews of the elusive Rim.  It is truly amazing, especially after having chased it for a few days!  Not much is open here, but a few rigs are camped along the road in various campgrounds.  I headed up to Woods Canyon Lake and checked it out. It's a beautiful mountain lake surrounded by Ponderosa pines and the same rock of which the Rim is composed.  The Road, 300, is about fifty miles long and goes back west to Pine, where I got info from the helpful mechanic guy.  It's quite rough in places, according to the information I have.  I drove back to camp.

Incidentally, the photos of the flowers, the Indian Paintbrush and the Lupine, one of Lynnie's favorites, were taken at Sharp Creek.

I spent most of the day hanging around camp.  I'm still the only rig in the B loop.  Nice and quiet.  It got down to 35 degrees last night.  Not surprising since we're at over 7500 feet in altitude.  The day got up to about seventy.  Nice for sunning and biking.

Later in the day, I took Dolores down the road to Willow Springs Lake and took another rocky trail in the area.  It's good practice to ride such trails.  My balance and "aim" are improving.  I'm looking forward to more trail riding as my journey progresses.

I'm leaving tomorrow for Holbrook, AZ.  It's near the Petrified Forest National Park.  There's also the Painted Desert there.  I'm looking forward to some evening shots and a sunset.  Should be great.  We'll both know in a few days.

That's about all for today.  "Keep comin' back", as they say.

I know I have been in that area but obviously missed the Rim...looks nice from your pictures. 35 there and 34 here last night...glad I brought my tomatoes in. Your route really leads you to many places. Are you just picking the route as you go or is there some grand plan? It is fun to wander so you are doing it right. All of us commenters are jealous.
