Where I stayed
Houston Mesa FS Campground
I drove on anyway. I passed through Pine and continued on to Strawberry. Interesting name, but don't ask. I pulled over at an abandoned store and walked a short distance to a garage. The mechanic, who owns the place, was of more help than the entire force of the US Government...we'll maybe not all of it. He gave me an idea of how and where to go. I drove a bit farther to just this side of Payson. I found the Houston Mesa FS Campground by using my phone app. It's a very quiet place with three loops for camping. I'm in the Elk Loop
Anyway, I stopped and talked with Judy, the camp host. She sold her house and now lives in a nice, shiny Class A Motorhome of about forty feet in length. She has a four-wheel-drive vehicle and a mountain bike to boot. She started out life north of Detroit and now travels and volunteers or hosts as a lifestyle. Nice lady...
I took a short video of the site for Lynnie, so I'll try to upload it for you to see. It's not very good in quality, but gives you a feel for the new home. The flora is much different here at about five-thousand feet. It was cloudy most of the day, but the sun showed up just enough to make it a great day. It did get up to eighty-five, in spite of the overcast. It really doesn't take much sun to brighten one's life.
I took a short walk before dinner. The forecast is for rain tomorrow, so it it comes to pass, I'll stay here another night. Ten dollars even to stay is a deal. No power or water, but I have LED lights and batteries in the coach. Sotch a deal!
