We awoke today to a blue sun-filled sky and a temperature of about sixty degrees.  Lynnie had her weekly call from her buddies and Helena and ALL was good.  I took a short walk down near the lake to get a feel for the area.  We decided to stay another night, since it’s so absolutely peaceful.  No internet, no text messages… only the phone, and it has an off-switch.

We took one of the trails called The Little Falls Trail.  It wasn’t steep, but the footing was a challenge due to the copious number of roots running on the surface of the trail.  One picture shows this clearly, as does one of the videos.  I did get one Birkenstock “baptized” in a soggy area of the trail, but for the most part it was covered with stones and leaves.  We saw no one else on our hike.  It’s still early for camping for this part of Pennsylvania.  The sun was warm and broke through the many hardwood trees and scattered it’s light like gold dust.  Few wildflowers are blooming here now, but I did capture a few in a cleft of stone trailside.  We walked for just over an hour and then returned to camp.

A few birds are showing up now, namely woodpeckers.  They are primarily downy woodpeckers, according to a guidebook I saw at the Ranger station.  I did get a shot of a new sparrow…  He has the rufous, or red-brown, cap, but in other features, he doesn’t fit.  I must ask my friend Don, the story.  I got one shot of a woodpecker, but it wasn’t fit to publish.  The sparrows are numerous here and I saw one chickadee, but true to form it flitted away and avoided being photographed.

The campground won’t be fully open until the weekend after next.  The have portable toilets in place and no showers open yet.  Hopefully when we get to New York State tomorrow we’ll have full facilities.  Of course, we have the shower in Shorty…

Hopefully I’ll be coming to you live tomorrow… Till then, thanks and Adios!
