The Bellingrath Gardens and Home is about ten miles from St. Philip’s. It’s a rather large estate with a ten thousand five hundred square foot house, built of stone. Walter Bellingrath was involved with Coca Cola in the early years. The home was build in nineteen thirty nine and employed eight servants. All of the original furniture and accessories remain intact. Only the carpets have been replaced, but those with antiques. It’s a beautiful home. The woman of the house was interested in porcelains. There are several showcases throughout the house which exhibit them. No photos were allowed inside, but I did get a few of the outside area. The gardens weren’t at their finest. We were probably about a month early, since spring is just getting started here. The azaleas were in bloom as well as the tulip trees. It was very green there, since the grass and trees stay green the year round.
We had lunch in their cafe and it was a great meal. I won’t go into what we had, since it’s nearing suppertime and I don’t really want to start drooling on the keyboard or causing you to do the same as you read this.
