Today we drove south to Tumacacori, where the latest church was built by the Franciscans from 1802 to 1821.  The site was originally visited by a Jesuit named Padre Eusebio Francisco Kino in 1687.  Because of political conflict between Spain and Portugal, the Jesuits were deported in 1767 and replaced by the Franciscans.  Long story short, the church is no longer used, except for one weekend in December when Mass is celebrated and a festival is held including local Indians and other folks.
We returned to Tubac later, where we shopped, or I should say Lynn shopped and I leaned.  She was unable to find anything that would fit in Shorty, so we escaped unscathed.

We spent time exploring the town and found a large exhibit of metal statuary, so of which stood twelve feet tall.  None, in my opinion, were photoworthy, so none were included.  The photos shown are of the church environs...  Tomorrow, a birding assault on  Medera Canyon in the glorious Santa Rita mountains, led by Don, our avian guide.
