The Pacific Coast Highway went up route 1 for most of this journey and not 101 which is much busier. We made a few stops on the way to Hearst Castle, the first was at Pismo Beach which looks as though during Summer it would be extremely busy. It was fairly busy even now with quite a few surfers.
Hearst Castle is very palatial and extravagant, absolutely no comparison to Paronella Park in Australia! It was nice to go around with the tour and see 500-600 year old rugs and furniture. The pools here were also a highlight.
Just north of here was a sight well known for Elephant seals. We were lucky to see so many here and they really do deserve the name elephant!
