Off again by taxi this time so we can stop for a few hours in Amabala before stopping for 2 nights in Yamunanagar. Fortunately everyone was at home in Ambala and it was good to see that Pithaji (dad's dad) seems a lot improved then the last time we saw him after his stroke. He was very confused about why I would choose to shave my head and I tried to explain that it is in fashion (but more importantly I'm bald). My cousin Nikki made both of our favourites foods (two days in a row after Ludhiana!) and was great to catch up with the whole Marwaha family.
Arrived late at the hotel in Yamunanagar so did not get in touch with anyone; early the next day started making phone calls and planning the route for going around. Vanshika (cousin) and Puneet were very nice to offer to take us around everyones house and this saved us a lot of time, we also ate with them on many occasions! Their two little girls were adorable and reminded Komilla of her childhood growing up with Priya.
Amazing to see Nanaji (mum's dad) doing so well and he showed us around the new nice and he was very proud of what has been made and was in a happy mood. It was great to hear him reminisce about the work he used to do when he was younger and the marriages that he has set up. I am still amazed how a 106 year old looks so good for his age and has such a good memory. It was hard not seeing Nanima there and could sense the loss from Nanaji. After all they had been married for more than 70 years. Despite only knowing him for 5 years I feel so attached to him and loved holding his hand as he told us his stories. He also wanted to buy us some Indian sweets and insisted that he would walk there just to get them for us. When we left, even though we protested, he gave us a shagan (a loving blessing in form of money) and even sent a shagun for Mum. We promise not to spend it Mum!!
