The shoot was stressful. We screwed around alot and didnt do too much. I had a new 2nd AC. His name was Boyan. He is ok I guess but he doesnt know anything. I feel like I spent half of ever day training a new AC.
We did blow up a guy at the end of the day though. Not too much to write home about, the pictures say it all.
I love this panorama photo. Look at it big if you can. I stitched 5 or 6 photos together and the detail is pretty solid.
I find out tomorrow if we will finish shooting this film. There has been a major problem with the investors and there is a fairly high chance (at least 50/50 at this point) that we wont shoot beyond tuesday. Or the shoot will be delayed for a few days/weeks. I could end up staying here alot longer. I wont come home any earlier though cause if the shoot is cancelled albert and I and probably one or two others will head to greece, maybe prauge, and some other places. Either way there should be fun times.
After the shoot Albert and I went out to eat, then met up with Simona at a trendy coffee shop with live music. A friend of hers was playing and shes good if you like pop rock kind of music. Turns out shes one of the big musicians in town. Albert got fairly drunk and agreed to direct a music video for her, and I agreed to shoot it...on Red...Tomorrow. So we spent all night in a daze planning a music video with everyone having had too much to drink. For some reason teenagers hang out outside in this park and drink. There were hundreds of them. And its really dark. But it was pretty fun I suppose and I think some good ideas were somehow flushed out.
Albert and I woke up a few hours after going to sleep. He had a terribad hangover. I felt like I slept for 20 hours and wanted nothing more than to play some capoeira. It turned out there were re-elections for some reason today and it was pretty unsafe to shoot ( side story time:
--(Albert and I were supposed to be registered when we got into town within 3 days. The guy that was supposed to do it forgot. When we found out we were supposed to go (no one at the airport told us so we were clueless), the police dude told us we were too late and we had to pay the fine. 4000 euros each, plus our host. 12000 euros total. Thats something like $18,000. No fun. So at this point we are illegal immigrants and are actively hiding from the police. Tomorrow we will sneak into Kosovo, then get our passports stamped when we come back in an hour later, then go to the police station and get the situation resolved. yay for loopholes)--
End side story) because alot of police would be around and the red looks like a missle laucher. So we spent the time scounting for locations for half the day and found alot of great stuff. Albert wants it to look like the recent louis vuitton add (if you havent seen i will provide a little link for you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTtpFmgBmTI&feature=related ) which mostly means alot of really shallow focus and silhouette type stuff. Its gonna be really challenging but alot of fun and Im looking forward to it. He also has a bunch of other ideas that are coming out and I think we should at least come out with alot of great images.
The singer is great. We have one of those connections where you just become best friends immedately with a stranger. The only problem is I dont speak macedonian and she knows about 10 words in english. But oh well, it works out well enough.
We checked out a few places in turkey town. I didnt have my camera so I dont really have any pictures, but we went to this awesome art gallery with really crazy and scary christian paintings (like jesus turning into a mist and that is traveling between some naked girl's legs; I dont really know what that is supposed to mean. Its in a big church art gallery so I know its not sacrilidgeous. Any ideas?), and unicorns, and jesus with swords. Then I got to have real turkish tea after years of drinking it at home. It was stronger than I would haev imagined and wonderful.
After turkey town and some other fancy places we went to dinner up on a mountain overlooking Skopje. It was traditional macedonian food (strong cheese, meat stuffed with cheese wrapped in bacon, etc), and some awesome wine. Afterwords we went to an overlook where teenagers like to make out it seems, and watched the sun set etc etc. Was lots of fun. Came home early cause what might be our last day of shooting has a 630am call time. God this has been a long entry. I must stop. Goodbye reader.
