Im up early to organise food and beverage for our boat trip to the so called 6 Junctions as recommended by Osmond, our local guide. I forget to buy Jay some water since we usually organise our own water for the day. We board a small metal boat after a brief walk to the river. It’s a 6 hr trip and although Jay has bought several cans of fruit juices since he has a sweet tooth he panics and gives me a hard time for forgetting the water. I have a full bottle of 1.5l plus the cans of drink which should be enough. Our boatman, issy has also forgotten his water.
Jay tries to swallow his disgruntle and makes some English tea on the boat. Soon we are welcomed by an abundance of wildlife. Since it’s the wet season the river is bursting at its banks and many trees are under water. We shoot away with our cameras and see monkeys, hippos and copious amounts of birds. On our return we stop off for some lunch. It’s a dire concoction of tinned food and bread. Its back to Georgetown after a good 5hrs and nobody suffered from dehydration.

That same afternoon we cross the river north to Wassu, some 20kms away as there are some stone circles. We only just manage to find it in the tall grass but are disappointed by the small shapes. We head back as we had seen a huge pond to capture the sunset. While we wait for the sun to go down, Jay heats some Chinese noodles and some English tea before an observant group of local boys.

That night im awoken by someone frantically banging some cooking pots in the neighbourhood. I also notice there is some brisk wind picking up and my thoughts are that a storm is brewing. Soon after it pours down confirming my fears. I lay wondering if the iron corrugated roof is fine and some time later I feel some water dripping through. I curse these huts and improvise a plastic bag over my mosquito net. I do the same for Jay who is fast asleep.
