The way down from Rabat all the way to Safi was not uneventful.. We encountered a head-on collision in the middle of the road then a guy in a small bus in front blew a tyre. We almost crashed into the back! We stopped to help but he was Ok and had all the tools necessary. During the whole time there was lots of thunder out to sea. I later found out that the canary islands had experienced some really bad weather that same night.

We finally arrived late at Safi, an old but industrialized town famous for its pottery. We got to the medina, the ancient part of town and looked for Hotels. there must have been some 8 before i found a room. It really was a dirtbag but had no choice. It was only 50Dh (4.50euro / 3.80quid) and the sheets stank and so did the room. The walls were laden with moisture. I fell asleep like a rock as i didnt get much sleep the previous night on the bus.

Woke up at about 8am and walked around to find the bus station. Got a bit lost through the tight medina mazes but found the ancient portuguese cathedral. Very tiny place! then walked some 30mins to find the main bus station. I was lucky as the next bus back to Essaouira was only 5mins away. Got a ticket for 30Dh and Jumped on.

On the bus i got the Ipod and headphones out to entertain myself and my neighbour, an elderly Moroccan man was very eager to watch "sherlock holmes" with me. I shared the film and it was very entertaining to watch the old man twiddle his thumbs with delight when there was a scene of a lady undressing herself! yet nothing was revealed..
