The history goes back when the Portuguese the first Europeans to arrive here and erected the fort in order to secure the safety of the ships and trade, later the Dutch conquered this fort and dominated the trade.
The fort and the city in it is the most emblematic history part of Galle, but also there are canals built by the dutch that are worth visiting.
My stay here was short because I did not want to stay in a busy city.
Got a bus from here to Bentota.
