4.45am start today. I packed everything up last night so all I had to do was convince Harry to get up and we made the short trip to the beach to watch the sunrise – cloudy again, but we had a spectacular stretch of sand to enjoy in the half light. We played fetch for a bit and then got on the road. We drove along Long Island and then along Brooklyn's coast with all the commuters – we got there about 7.30 so I can say I have driven through a New York rush-hour! We crossed the Verrazano Narrows bridge (huge suspension bridge) to Staten Island, and then the Goethals bridge took us across into New Jersey. The road has taken us past huge industrial plants and busy docklands – New York, Trenton, Philadelphia and Baltimore. Crossing Delaware (our 24th and last state of the trip) happened in the blink of an eye and finally we were entering the DC suburbs. There wasn't too much traffic and we got home just before lunch.

We’ve covered over 9400 miles. It’s strange to be back. I'm going to watch a bit of Wimbledon and catch up on some sleep this weekend.

Well done!
A fantastic achievement. Thanks for keeping us all entertained. I passed the link to your blog to a couple of friends of mine who have been following your progress.

You deserve a well earned rest. I bet Harry is worn out!

I'm pleased you arrived home safe and well. I hope you managed to catch the Wimbledon Finals. The ladies one wasn't up to much, but Andy Roddick did really well in the mens final. I felt so sorry for him at the end, he was clearly upset.

Love
