Where I stayed

The dawn expedition went according to plan except, once again, it was too cloudy to see the sunrise. It didn't matter though because we had a fantastic walk along the deserted beach and Harry chased seagulls to his heart’s content. I decided to take the quick route to Newport, which went right through (well, under) the middle of Boston. We were on the outskirts of Newport in about 2 hours and the weather had cleared up along the way. We parked near the marina/wharf area and wandered down the little alleyways, window shopping the smart boutiques and seafood restaurants. It was too hot to walk around in the sun for long so we found a shady spot in a park and watched the world go by. Later on we drove along Bellevue Avenue and gawped at the mansions – fantastical houses ranging from gothic revival style to copies of Versailles, built by the Vanderbilts etc at the end of the 19th century. We went for another drive around sunset and watched the racing yachts coming home for the evening – it’s a surreal place.

Summer Cottages!
Wow, they are fantastic holiday homes! I took a look at the Mansions on the Newport preservation society website.

Newport sounds like a great place to visit. You have given me a lot of idea's for my next visit to the States.

Love
