We packed our bags and said goodbye to Sin City.....we definitely could see how people could lose all their money in a split second but luckily for us we were disciplined enough (hah hah) to keep our gambling to a minimum. The hotel was very nice and our room was very comfy but I guess Vegas just isn't for us. I'm sure the weather didn't help our trip either. They had had the worst storm in years the week before and got the snow that everybody has heard about but they were also having a horrible storm yesterday. A front moved through that brought thunderstorms, lightning, rain and wind gusts up to 45 mph. We thought the weather calmed down and took a cab a couple of blocks over to the strip to the Bellagio hotel to see the fountains but as soon as we stepped out the wind kicked up again and the announcer came over the speakers and said the fountain displays were cancelled due to the weather. I was really bummed but couldn't do anything about it, we went to hail a cab and it started raining, lol. So we decided to head back to the hotel and spend the rest of the night relaxing in the room and resting up for the rest of the trip. We had a good night's sleep and packed our stuff and headed out for the next leg of the trip. Las Vegas to Fresno, CA.

We were only in Nevada for about 30 miles before we made it into California. I drove for a few hours today to give Mike a break and he picked the perfect time to let me drive - right through construction and steep mountains with a nice warning sign that icy conditions were likely. It's ok though, the drive was fine, the ice had already melted from the roads and all was well. Snow was everywhere though and was very exciting to see the snow capped mountains and all the snow on the ground. We made it to the Mohave desert and there was a lot more vegetation than we thought would be there. Almost looked like we were driving through parts of Arizona with all the cactus around. The weather was absolutely perfect with a high of 50 and lows in the 30s while driving through the desert. We found an authentic 1950s diner called Peggy Sue's along the way and stopped and had lunch. Some of the prettiest scenery we saw were the rolling hills in California before Barstow and it was just amazing. We hit the cities in California and the traffic wasn't as heavy as we were expecting which was a good thing. We made it into Fresno around 6:30 and relaxed in the hotel for a bit. We headed to a restaurant right next to the hotel for dinner and had one of the best meals of the trip.

We are leaving in the morning and setting our sights on Redding, about a 400 mile drive. I think from here on out we are going to run into rain but hopefully the temps will stay in the 40s so we won't have to deal with ice or snow. Although the drives aren't as long and tedious as I once thought, Mike and I are ready to start our new life in Tacoma already. We are over halfway done and looking forward to cross into Washington but until then we are enjoying seeing the different sights along the way. You can definitely tell we aren't in Texas anymore and although we see familiar sites and restaurants, there are different road signs, roadways, and even inspection points along the way. We drove through one today and apparently a husband and wife with Texas plates don't cause any concern to rise. Luckily we had already gotten rid of the oranges we had in the truck bed so they didn't have to search our vehicle and we passed right on through. Who knows what else we will see along the way but we are excited and I still want to see snow falling!!!!

Hi......
Sorry I haven't been on to chat but it was wild in Waco!!!

I am still jealous of your trip; it really looks as though you all have seen some awesome country..... The pictures are just extraordinary!

Didn't realize CA had all those windmills; they looked like the oil derricks back in the 'oil boom' days crammed so close together like that.

Keep the pictures coming even after you all get to Tacoma...
Love you loads!!!!
