Many people have been wondering why I chose to study abroad in Italy. And why Florence and not Rome?

So, I figured I would be honest and tell you all.

I came to Italy to eat. To enjoy the flavor of food that has been made with the freshest ingredients. To sit at the dinner table dining for hours just dreaming in food. Haha. Okay. Okay. So, that's not entirely truthful, but never have I tasted food this delicious in my entire life and today is a perfect example of my wonderful food tasting experience.

For the first time since I arrived, I was able to sleep in and have the entire day to myself. I was my own personal travel agent as I took myself around Florence enjoying all the sights that I hadn't had a chance yet to see. I decided to cave and pay the 8€ to climb to the top of the Santa Maria del Fiore Duomo (aka the BIG church you see in all the pictures of Florence!). It took 140 YEARS to build and it is the largest brick dome in the ENTIRE world even TODAY! 436 steps to the top (double that for the total number of stairs and you got yourself a workout better than anything Jillian Michaels could whip up). ;)

Anyway, the view was simply gorgeous and easily the best scenery I have ever laid eyes on. (I included pictures, don't worry!)  I seriously felt as if I was in the glass elevator with Mr. Wonka himself overlooking the city. The scenery was just so pretty. The red-topped roofs spread for miles and the mountains and hills surrounding the city were just mesmerizing.  I am so glad I decided to do it.

Therefore, after climbing ALL of those stairs, I decided to reward myself by visiting the best gelateria in Florence. And it was PERFECT. It was like heaven in my mouth. So delicious. The best thing that has ever touched my tongue.  Julia Child once said "fat gives things flavor!" And she couldn't have been more right. Therefore, I have decided to dedicate this entry to food.

I just saw that one of my FB friends has also been reading your blog - Dulce Lollett Rivero. (Cool) Just in case you were wondering who that was. If you're not family, you're a woodturrner or carver in my FB family.

Aunt Donna,
Strangely enough, I'm not able to see WHO views my blog unless they leave a comment. I can just see the number of people- total and per entry. And I can also see on a map where my viewers are from, but it just shows a big map of the world with the U.S. highlighted, so that's no new news.
But that's really cool that they're following it! Everyone is welcome!! :)
