Today we visited a Chianti Vineyard in Siena!!

It was really cool to be taken through the process of producing wine. The winery that we went to overlooked this beautiful Tuscan landscape. It was gorgeous AND it wasn't raining! At the winery, we learned how the grapes undergo fermentation in which yeast is added to the grapes and a whole lot of other information that went right over my head to be honest. Ha. Anyway, after the tour around the winery, we had a wine sampling in which we were able to try four different varieties of Chianti wine. I enjoyed the concept of wine tasting and we were able to sip out on the balcony, but I still haven't become accustomed to red wine. I'm not quite sure what it is, but I just can't seem to really enjoy the flavor. Maybe it's because I don't drink alcohol or the fact that I don't drink carbonated drinks like pop, either, but I really have no idea! I think I will just have to broaden my horizons and try other varieties of wine. I'm sure to find something, right?

Tomorrow, I have the entire day to myself! This is the first day since arriving in Europe that I will be able to sleep in AND have nothing on my itinerary! It is also the ONLY day I have completely to myself while here with the AIFS program. Can you believe it? They run us so hard that I am looking forward to tomorrow very much. A lot of travel books have been left at the apartment here from past students, so I've been looking through them to see where the best places are to go around Florence. I find it so strange that I've been here for two weeks and I haven't actually had time to enjoy the city. I plan on shopping, sightseeing, and eating the BEST gelato and chocolate all by myself. I seriously cannot wait! It is going to be wonderful!!

Your not liking wine is probably the same as mine. it's the alcohol. We'll get some Ariel. it's dealcoholized wine... they take the booze out of it. comes in both reds and whites. very yummy. it's like adult non-sparkly grape juice.

Wine, or any alcoholic beverage is an 'acquired' taste. And it's really o.k. if you never acquire that taste. You won't be missing all that much!

Love your photos! It looks like you're having a great time. Thanks for sharing your trip with this blog. I'm soooo looking forward to your trip to Salzberg. I loved it for the same reason that you do!
