So...I've been in Canada for almost 2 weeks. In fact 2 weeks ago tonight was my last night in Charlotte. It seems like longer than that. So a few updates....as my friend Ginger referred to my blog as...the Rachel is a trip story! I love it.
So, my house. My house is great. I'm all moved in and the last of the boxes I shipped arrived today. Note to anyone sending me things --- IT TAKES FOREVER! Really - almost 2 weeks to ship here. But they have my name in customs now...they know I'm here, so maybe a week and a half? I digress...the house is great, perfect for me. I will include pictures. As you may or may not remember it's 450 square feet and the bathroom is downstairs in the UNFINISHED basement. Not really a big deal when the house is so small. I even go down there in the middle of the night when I have to tinkle! So the house is boogie man free! If you can't picture a 450 sq ft house...then let me help. My bed room is 7' by 8' I moved my bed to the other end of the room...6 inches. I have a window. a small closet, a bed, a dresser and a crate for a nightstand. Nothing else is fitting in there. The 2nd bedroom (office) is 7' by 7' a desk, a window and a chair. It's oddly one of my favorite rooms in the house. For some reason the black lamp and light blue tealight candle really make the room. Go figure. The living room is 10 by 8 and a loveseat, tv and the other crate for a end table and a large picture window. The kitchen is great too...I've managed to get by with my one plate, one wine glass and an odd variety of mismatch kitchen gear. Unfortunatly when I was loading a few boxes from the kitchen didn't make it...so I ended up wiht the top to my Brita pitcher but no pitcher. HA. I also thought I ended up with a beater but no beaters...but they ended up in one of the boxes that was shipped. Now the test will be to see if I can make frozen margaritas with a hand blender! At least I don't have to go without mash potatoes. The funniest thing in my kitchen is the stove. One, it's in French, two it's in Celsius. I have no idea what I am doing. Good for me it's in Farenheit and English too. However I have to select not only the temperature but also if I want it to cook from the top or the bottom. Now you might say the top is for broiling...but I found when cooking my pizza the other day...cooking from the bottom toasted the crust nicely but the cheese was still frozen. My second attempt turned out much better...I cooked a little from the bottom and then switched half way to cook a little from the top. Voila...it's wasn't delivery or Dijorno...but it was cooked!
So besides the house...the job is going great. I'm super busy and can't believe tomorrow is Friday. The culture is a bit different here...last Friday the managers made pancake breakfast for us...I started the day with 3 mimosas and then at lunch some of the girls brought me to a local brewery "Bushwakkers" and I had a beer...then at 4:00 the managers came around with 2 cases of beer. How did I manage to get any work done? I came home and took a nap. But work is great...I'm learning a ton and can see from a professional standpoint that this move was and is a great opportunity for me. I'm kicking butt and taking names in other words!
As for Regina life...not much to report at this time...I'll get some pictures of the town for you maybe this weekend. I live just moments away from this picturesque park...Wascana Park. The is a lake, a science center and I heard a pool. I am only a few minutes from work - probably less than 2km. Yes..kilometers. I also buy my gas in liters and ask for "fromage" when I'm looking for cheese! I've almost killed...at last count...5 pedestrians. It's the craziest thing...Pedestrians have the right of way here no matter what. Downtown in rush hour...no problem..step into the street and the cars will stop. They have fancy crossings...the pedestrians push these buttons (we have them in the States but do the buttons really do anything??) Here the buttons actually turn this pedestrian light red and get this...CARS STOP! So a bit of adjusting. I drove into a non lighted intersection as all the cars were stopped so I went...only after I got through the intersection realize they weren't stopping for me but for the pedestrian...never did see them. But hey my license plate still says North Carolina so I'm creating a great name for North Carolinians here in Canada. That's alright - everyone thinks everyone in the south is so nice...a little damage will only even them out with the rest of the world.
Well that's is it for tonight. Just wanted to include a little shout out to some new people I'm finally adding to the distribution list. (sorry for the delay) Hey Krabaths! Kristen, Paul, Scott, Minnie and Harry were my neighbors back in Cornelius. They were/are great neighbors! I hope the bonus room is coming along and that you found a home for all the items in the garage! Also, Hi to Shelby and Theresa at Midtown. I need some spending cash...do you think you can talk to Luke about opening a Midtown here in Regina...I need some shifts!
Miss you all! Rachel

Great
Rachel,
The house looks wonderful even if it's small it doesn't seem to matter. I love it. You are a great decorator. Oh except for the closet. Holy crap that's small. I'm still looking for your knit dress. I'm not giving up.
Love you,
Mom
