We left Rainbow Beach at midday on the greyhound, heading up to a little town called 1770, so called as this was where captain Cook first ran aground in Queensland. We arrived after 6 hours on the road to our hostel which was called Cool Bananas, and was the nicest place we have stayed the whole trip....great atmosphere and relaxed feel. After we made our delicious dinner we were jou\ined on our table by a random group of lads bowling over with a pack of cards and a lot of beer, getting us to join in their drinking games! It was a really fun night, and we met a friend who we have stuck with for a bit since, called Kirsty.
We were up the next morning early ish to go off surfing for the first time, with the local surf school. We had a 2 hour surf lesson, which was cool, but could really have down with longer. Still, it was really knackering as just getting hte board out over the waves takes so much effort, and 9 times out of 10 you take a few steps forward before a massive wave shoves you back even further than you had waded! Still, it was fun even if I didn't manage to stanbd up. After a while I just stayed lying on my front as it was just as much fun and you actually gettoride the wave for longer before flling off! Katy was really good though and was standing pretty much straight away. She must have the balance skills I seem to lack! Kirsty
After a rush back from the beach, quick shower and lunch, we were off on our 'Scooteroo' tour, which was a motorbike tour around the town to find kangaroos and wallabies. I had a little 'chopper' with a very cool helmet with flames on it, and once I ahd learned how to ride it without falling off anf dying it was really fun! We went all along the back roads of the town, and eventually found some cute roos and wallabies (getting v overexcited as it was the first time we had seen them). After taking five million photos of the same things we all scootered off to the beach area where we had yummy potato wedges whilst watching the amazing sunset then headed back to teh bast\e. By this time it was dark and halfway back my headlamp stopped working so I was slightly panicked trying to actually see whrer i was going. Thankfully we made it back and I still had all my limbs attached. The tour was so much fun....the guy who ran it was a great laugh and made us all pose for stupid photos along the way. I'd recommend it to anyone going that way! Plus it's made me want a motorbike! of course that would be totally practical, but they're really easy to ride and so much fun.
The evening was meant to be a beach aprty down at Agnes Water beach, but for most people were shattered after the surfing and biking that we all just collapsed infront of the TV at the hostel and watched Casino Royale (for about the 50th time since I left home!). A local guy came round to the hostel who runs local wildlife tours, and brought some 'wonder clay' face mask with him, and was giving everyone at the hostels free facials. It was so funny watching everyone walking arouns with a face of white clay! Who said staying in hostels wasn't luxurious?!
