Another early-ish start and drive to get to Johannesburg for lunch time. The weather was unfortunately grim again, but as we were driving it didn't really matter. As we came into the city all of us didn't really know what to expect, what with hearing all sorts of stories aboutpeople getting shot ang mugged at all hours of the day. We drove through some pretty ghetto-ish areas but nothing seemed really out of the ordinary. It turns out the city isjust like any other, there are parts that are fine and others that you just don't go to. The city centre is the palce to avoid. Someone at our hostel today told us about two lads thatstayed here who were adament they were going to walk into the city centre, despite all the warnings not to. Anyway theyended up at the police station at midnight in just their underwear. Lucky they were still living to be honest.

But, before you all begin to have heart attacks, we ar ein a perfectly safe area. Very posh in fact, with massive mansions. We arrived at the hostel, "the Backpacker's Ritz", sortly to be renamed 'The Pits" as the place had no atmosphere, and they screwed up all our bookings, bookign teh couples who wanted separate rooms into another section of the hostel down the road, and putting me by myself in a completely separate dorm to the rest of teh group.. We managed to sort that out but then decided to move for our second night.

In the afternoon we went to a nice shopping mall down the road, and then we had our final group meal as this was the last night of the tour. The meal was nice and really cheap as we put in the 100 Rand the german guys had given us, and we also had 50R each of kitty money left over, so we enedd up with a 3 course meal and wine for 3 pounds each! We wanted to go out after but the problem with Jo-burg is you don't know where is safe or not, so we ended up back at the hostel quite early in the end. Shame for the last night, but it was betetr that than being shot.
