Where I stayed
Demesne Bunkhouse, Bellingham
The viaMichelin website suggested 5 hours for the trip from the Highlands to Northumberland, so I was unsurprised when it took well over 6, We cleaned the hut before we left and lugged everything to the car, down through the heather and over the foot-bridge. We travelled through the Highlands in the rain and mist, past Edinburgh on the wrong motorway and finally down past Otterburn to our booked bunk-barn in Bellingham.
The place looked very nice, kitted out well with a kitchen and sofas. It was a lot less isolated than the hut. The phone signal was non-existent, however, and I had to climb to the top of a hill to get in touch with the outside world. I got a good view, though - sheep, the roofs of Bellingham and the purple moors of Northumberland.
