We walked around Vilnius for an hour. It has some quite elegant buildings. The cathedral was a cavern of quiet and calm; something not easy to come by with four kids in tow. The Presidential Palace was suitably big and beautiful, set in the network of old streets. The flags outside flapped in the breeze and a gaggle of tourists were peering at it from behind their tour-guide. One man had a collie with one blue eye and one brown eye. I'm not sure how much the dog was getting out of the tour commentary.

Most of the touristy things were still setting up, as it was barely 10am and all self respecting stag parties had only just gone to bed. Mel had been on about finding an amber elephant since Trakai, so we inspected several shops, looking for one that didn't cost the earth. Eventually, he found an elephant striding across a bed of amber chippings, which made him happy.

Job done, we headed for Poland.
