Yet more car trouble was on the horizon for Sunday morning. Sherpa had managed to turn his car on, then somehow knock the locking system as he was getting out, just as the door blew shut. Sherpa was now locked out of his running car. Several resourceful hikers spent some considerable time trying to poke the switch on the dashboard with a long pole through the bent window seal. Fun.

Eventually, plans were made, and the slightly lighter weather made a short comfortable walk possible. We met up with half a dozen of the others at the car park in Hawkshead. Following yesterday's soaking, I made a strategic purchase of a clear, dry bag for the map. I am now moving towards 'kitted out hiker', thus making me the Fonz of the rambling world. I am just sooo cool.

Anyway, we followed a path across a couple of boggy fields and muddy stiles until it started to rise. The last few hundred yards towards the top of Latterbarrow felt like they went straight up. Fortunately, the view wasn't bad.

Due to time constraints, we said our goodbyes at this point and the rest of the party headed off into the distance. We took a different route back down, through some stony sheep fields, back to Hawkshead.

We had planned to stop in Ambleside on the way home to see the Roman ruin "Galava", which unfortunately turned out to be a muddy field with some ridges in. Most disappointing, and it started to rain again as we walked back to the car, leading to a damp drive home. On a positive note, we did get home in a record four hours, just in time for Eartha to watch Dr Who.
