Sorry I haven't updated the blog for a while. On 6th Jan I took the train from Nanu Oya to Ella. It was touch and go whether the train would run because of the cyclone the day before. In the end the train rain and it was a great 3 hour journey. I arrived at Ella and had a snack at a great cafe then headed to my hotel. The hotel had wonderful views over tea plantations but the service was not great. The next day I went to visit a couple of temples and walked up little Adams Peak. An exhausting walk but manageable. I had a helper who carried my bags as I walked up. The views were amazing.
In the afternoon I had an aruyeveduc massage, facial, steam and sauna which lasted 2 hours. During this time it started to rain heavily. The rain lasted all night so I went to bed early.
The next day we drove to Yala National Park. The hotel is based in the national park and rooms are self contained buildings in the grounds. After dark you have to be escorted to your room by a member of staff in case an elephant is roaming round. In the afternoon I went on a safari. I saw where the Tsunami had come in. . We saw elephants but no leopard. The next day I went on another safari at 5 AM. We saw a leopard crossing the road with a deer it had killed. There was also a leopard up a tree which the jeep driver took pictures for me but I couldn't see it. In the afternoon we went to Bundala National Park which is rich with birds. I also met 2 fisherman just going out to sea.
I enjoyed Yala very much. The hotel was great. This morning we headed off to Galle. We stopped off on the way and had Buffalo curd which was nice and then at a seafood restaurant where I had king prawns. The drive was along the coast where the Tsunami hit.
I am now in Galle at a lovely hotel on the coast and we had the most beautiful sunset tonight. Tomorrow I'm going whale watching at 5.30 AM.
