After a bumpy sleeper train ride from Beijing, we arrive in Xi'an. Maybe we are tired after a bad nights sleep, but we find the weather grim and the people grumpy. We try to cycle around the city walls but there has been rain which apparantly makes the stones slippery which means no bicycles are allowed. Instead we go Scottish style and take a golf cart around the walls.
We spent the afternoon in the world famous Teracotta Army site. Nothing has changed too much from our last visit except the presence of the chinese McDonalds equivalent: Dicos. Joel is happy to eat chips and coke.
The scale of the site is still just as impressive and what I hadn't realised is that most of the uncovered warriers are found in 1000s of pieces. The effort required to reconstruct this giant 3 dimensional jigshaw is huge.
At night we wander around the city trying to find some restaurants. We finally arrive at the Lao Sun Jia, but it is near closing time and we don't think that we received the highly recommended yangrou paomo (lamb noodles)... very disappointing. At least Joel had eaten pizza already in the hostel.
Next day we have a 5am start, flying further west to Juizhaigou.
