The plan for the next part of our journey is to make a loop around the South-West corner of Australia, starting by heading East inland to Esperance and then taking the coast road back to Perth.
After leaving Fremantle (a little reluctantly), and driving through Perth’s sprawling suburbs we finally found ourselves back in the countryside. Here though, it’s significantly less scrub-filled and dusty than the North-West and the 380Km drive to Wave Rock was quite pleasant.
Wave Rock is a hamlet named after its principle attraction: the Wave Rock, a 100m long, inwardly eroded section of concave granite resembling a wave. We took some photos and walked a little further around to see ‘Hippo’s Yawn’, a rock eroded into the shape of, yep you’ve guessed, a hippo yawning, then some (mostly dried up) salt lakes including Lake Magic though what was magic about it, except that it actually had water in it, we couldn’t work out! We then headed back to the campsite for food and a little television (novelty!) before bed.
