We're now in Hopkins village which is a step up from Gale's Point with
a population of 1,100. We're staying at a cabin on the beach called
Tipple Tree Beya. From our porch you can see the turquoise blue
caribbean water. We have a little wooden room with a little
fridge (a total luxery that we have been estactic about!) and a soft bed.
We feel like we are living the good life for a couple of days!
The major ethnic group here is Garifuna which is a
mixture of Arawack indians and marooned slaves. They're language is
mostly indian and there drumming is totally different from the west
african rhythms that we learned in Gale's Point. Yesterday we were
practicing drumming and about 8 local kids came up and showed us some
of the Garifuna rhythms.
Lobster season started on June 15 and we chowed on some lobster tails. MMMMMM!
Our next stop is San Ignacio. Stay tuned...
