Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) Vietnam - 13th March 2008. We were up at 6:30 and took the bus into HCM city at 8 am which was a 1.30 min ride into town. A very interesting journey lots to see, however a vey poor country. There was lots of rubbish everywhere, paddy fields, Brahmin cows and water buffalo on the way. When we arrived we were taken to a cultural museum, which contained the world famous underworld puppet show that has been in existence for a 1000 years in Vietnam. Originally for the entertainment of the King and now used as a tourist attraction. We also had a tour of the museum and a short history lesson from our guide. Next stop was the Lacquer factory where they produce lacquer ware such as jewellery boxes, pictures, vases, plates and much more for tourists and the export markets. We were then given a tour of the city sites and taken to a hotel for a Vietnamese buffet lunch accompanied by some traditional singing and dancing. After lunch we were given a couple of hours to go shopping. We returned back to the ship for 5:30 after a very hot and humid day. Next port of call is Laem Chabang for Bangkok.
