It was the annual English Day at Ramallah Friends Girls School. But this year, because of the length of the programs it became English Days.  The amazing thing was these programs were of the same high quality you would find in a good school in the United States except for one thing - English is a second language for every one of these students!

The first day the upper grades (4-6) shared their skits, readings and poems ending with the traditional biographies.  A Palestinian fable of a man catching a large fish caught everyone's attention.

A 4th grader was amazing as he explained, in English, all about the human body. I think a medical student would be hard-pressed to give the same explanation he did.

And the first day ended with the 6th grade biographies where they dressed up as the person and then recited the biography.  We had Shania Twain, Mother Teresa, the pirate Blackbeard among others.

The second day was for the lower grades.  The highlight was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

The Friends Schools have mainstreamed the special needs students and one was even "Doc."  (see the girl in blue!)

Other classes had programs on the continents and the planets,

children in other lands

(The American children were Indians!)

and what I want to be when I grow up (a Palestinian mother and farmer).

The traveling Friends group under the leadership of Retha McCutcheon was in attendance on the second day along with a packed house each day of parents and other family members.

Bravo to Diana Abdul Nour and all the teachers at Ramallah Friends Schools!
