Penang was our first stop in Malaysia after Hong Kong. I liked Malaysia right away for its people, cultural diversity, wildlife and food. The majority of people are muslims (mainly malays) and I thought it was mystic to hear the call to prayer several times a day. A large portion of the population is of Chinese descent, a smaller portion of Indian descent and there are also numerous other indigenous ethnicities. It's the diversity of its people that makes Malaysia so interesting. Most people speak English as it used to be part of the Commonwealth until 1963 when it became independent. You can see a lot of old British colonial buildings in Georgetown. Oh yea I know I've already mentioned it but the food is soooooo good here! Overall we had a nice relaxing few days here in Penang.
