One of our favorite events to look forward to each year is the the Christmas Party that Greg's company always invites us retirees to attend - it's such a great party, with wonderful entertainment (including a harpist and floutist during cocktail hour, friend Chris and her Sweet Adelines Quartet [part of the 2-time International Award Winning Harborlites Chorus] and a band well-known for their great 60's and 70' music) , fabulous food and lots of chance to visit with old friends - those who are still working at Cal Portland, and those who, like us, are retired.  So, a few days after we got settled, it was our annual opportunity to dress up and party!  At the party, they always do a great job of taking "formal" photos, along with a few during the evening. Will attach a few of the pictures from last year's party, until we get this year's back.  Unfortunately, my knee was hurting enough that we only managed one slow dance, but it was a great evening, anyhow!
The next afternoon, we cleared our heads and drove out to Cousins Amy and Drew's house in Hollywood for their annual "Trim the Tree" open house party.   There's always a house full of interesting people, fantastic food and drink.  It's always fun to look around and try to recognize the actors and actresses that drop in. The highlight for me, this year, was meeting Marion Ross - yes!  that's "Mrs. C" - Richie Cunningham's Mom in Happy Days - and, Amy's on-screen Mother in Brooklyn Bridge, a great series that ran back in the early 90's.   Anyhow, Marion was very sweet, and is a beautiful woman, who, upon hearing that I'd lived in Minnesota for many years, wanted me to be sure to check out her old car from Happy Days which is in a museum in Albert Lea, Minnesota, where she grew up!  I didn't take any pictures at the party, but did catch some of the L.A. skyline as we drove towards it, and of some of the really interesting architecture around Hollywood.
Soon, our "dance card" started filling up - so many friends to see, and so little time to get together with everyone!  One of our first catch up opportunities after the previous planned parties was with friends Emily and Brett and their beautiful kids, Madeline and Charlie.   We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at their home along with a bit too much wine tasting!  A great evening, for sure!
A couple of days later, we were enjoying yet another gourmet dinner with friends - this time at my former boss' home.  We always enjoy spending time with Bernie and Tim, and they surprised us by having another one my former co-workers, Dan, and his wife, Barbara there.  What a fun night - again, great food, lots of wonderful wine (are we seeing a pattern here?) and lots of laughs!
