We left our Thousand Trails Palm Springs Preserve this morning, but not before I had a chance to snap a picture of one of the many roadrunners that come to visit around the park!
Despite having driven to this park, Wilderness Lakes, many times, the area and the roads around it change drastically every time we've been back, with new housing developments (or land set aside for new developments!) all around here.  These changes provided an opportunity for some excitement this morning, when we missed a turn and managed to take an off-road adventure through about a quarter mile of not-quite-graded dirt road construction area, until Greg found a section wide enough to get the rig (with thickly dusted car in tow!) turned around and back out again.  I think he was just missing his old jaunts through the limestone quarry!  Wilderness Lakes is called our Home Park, because it is the first park we visited, and where we purchased our membership.  It's a very roomy park, with two pools and spas (Adult and Family - although the Adult Pool is closed now for the "winter"), two lodges, Adult and Family, and three canals (stocked with fish) running through the Preserve.  The canals provide lots of fishing for those who enjoy it, and also attract a number of water birds - several kinds of ducks, black-crowned night herons, snowy egrets, and others - all of which are right behind our motorhome, since we parked right along one of the canals.   As much as I love this park, it has its drawbacks, as a huge cattle farm across the road attracts almost every black fly in the entire state, and, depending on time of day, they can literally coat the motorhome, its windows and screens, making it impossible to enter or exit without inviting many of them in.  Hopefully, the cooler nights will be discouraging their activity real soon!
